Before the concert that will be held on March 7 in the “Mirza Delibašić” hall, the famous tenor Jose Carreras was welcomed at the Sarajevo International Airport by the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk, the Mayor of Sarajevo Samir Avdić and the director of the Sarajevo Philharmonic Vedran Tuce.

On that occasion, as a sign of welcome and gratitude for his arrival in Sarajevo, Carreras was presented with an appropriate gift.

Carreras’ return to Sarajevo carries a strong emotional dimension. His connection with the city has been deeply rooted since June 19, 1994, when he performed Mozart’s “Requiem in D minor” in the ruined City Hall, a concert that remains a lasting testimony of art’s solidarity with Sarajevo.

Jose Carreras, born in 1946 in Barcelona, is one of the members of the world-famous trio “The Three Tenors”, together with Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo, which brought opera closer to an audience of millions around the world.

“The arrival of Jose Carreras is confirmation that today Sarajevo has the strength, credibility and cultural authority to host world-class events. In previous years, giants like Zubin Mehta and Riccardo Mutti have performed on our stages, and tonight we welcome one of the greatest tenors of all time. Concerts like this put Sarajevo side by side with European and world metropolises that regularly attract today’s greatest artists. Our strategic commitment is to continuously invest in culture and strengthen our institutions, because events like this confirm that Sarajevo is continuously strengthening its reputation on the international cultural scene,” said Uk.

The Sarajevo Philharmonic continuously organizes events of the highest artistic scope, confirming Sarajevo’s international reputation. The director of the Sarajevo Philharmonic, Vedran Tuce, said that another exceptional concert is ahead of us.

“One of the world’s greatest tenors of all time, Jose Carreras, arrived in Sarajevo. It is an event that represents our country in the best light and at the same time shows how important it is to continuously invest in culture, because it is our identity and our future,” said Tuce.

Along with the Sarajevo Philharmonic, the concert will be conducted by David Gimenez, Carreras’ longtime collaborator and conductor of international reputation, while soprano Diana Țugui will perform as the evening’s guest. The program of the concert includes a selection of the most famous arias and songs that marked the rich international career of Jose Carreras, it was announced from the CS Protocol and Press Service.
