The fifth round of talks between Iran and the United States (US) on Tehran’s nuclear program will be held in Rome on Friday, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi announced tonight.

Iran and the US resumed nuclear diplomacy last month, with Oman acting as a mediator in the talks.

US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal that Iran reached with world powers in 2018 during his previous term, saying he was seeking a “better” deal.

Trump also said the US would not allow Iran to develop a nuclear bomb.

The latest round of talks was held on May 11 in the Omani capital, Muscat.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Tuesday that he did not believe the talks would yield “any meaningful outcome.”
