At Sarajevo International Airport, the first flight of the Ryanair company on the route Getoborg – Sarajevo was successfully realized this morning, which brought 194 passengers arrived in the BiH capital.
The air destination with the Swedish city was realized by the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton and Sarajevo International Airport, and in cooperation with the Government of Sarajevo Canton, through a joint public call on subsidizing air traffic in KS.
The president of the KS Tourist Board Haris Fazlagić said at the press conference that cooperation with Ryanair was established after more than 12 months of talks and that this is just the beginning.
“By opening new direct airlines, we create opportunities for even more tourists to come to KS, and we who live here can also travel. Ryanair is very interesting in this segment, because it is perhaps the largest low-cost company in the world and in Europe. Our ultimate goal is for that company to have its base here in the future. As far as tourism is concerned, we are recording a constant growth, only in the first two or three months of this year we have a significantly increased number of arrivals and overnight stays in KS,” said Fazlagić.
He announced that they are currently working on launching an international public call for new airlines that will cover the years 2025 and 2026, and that they will do everything to get other airlines to come along with Ryanair to increase the number of destinations.
Director of the Airport Services Sector at the Sarajevo International Airport, Vedrana Vikić, said that in the coming days, as part of the summer flight schedule, they expect the realization of other air operations with five, also attractive European destinations.
“This is the result of joint successful cooperation between the KS Tourist Board and Sarajevo International Airport, as well as the KS Government and the KS Ministry of Economy. We all put a lot of effort into realizing this project related to subsidizing airlines, all with the aim of expanding the network of destinations from Sarajevo. Sarajevo International Airport has enriched its network of destinations and I believe that in this way we have met the needs and expectations of our passengers ,” said Vikić.
She added that this is just the beginning of successful joint cooperation and she believes that in the coming period, she will soon be able to delight passengers with more new destinations from Sarajevo.
The Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk announced in November 2023 that Ryanair will introduce five direct airlines from Sarajevo to Brussels, Gothenburg, London, Memmingen and Milan from April 2024. According to the plan, there will be over 20 flights per week and expects 200,000 passengers in the first 12 months, Fena writes.
