A project of the highest social and cultural importance, the first grand opera of Bosnia and Herzegovina ‘Tvrtko, King of Bosnia’ was presented yesterday in Sarajevo, and gathered several cultural institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The opera is based on the novel “Chronicle of King Tvrtko” by Jasmin Imamović. The author of the opera libretto is Almir Bašović, a playwright and professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo, and the composer is Ammar Jažić.

The initiator of the project and the bearer of the creation of the opera libretto and composition is the Bosnian Cultural Community “Preporod”, the bearer of the opera performance is the National Theater in Sarajevo, where for the first time in the centuries-old history of this fundamental theater house, a local grand opera will be performed, and the inclusion of other partners in project implementation.

The opera will also be of a large format because, in addition to the symphony orchestra and vocal soloists, it will also contain elements of ballet, it will also contain choral parts so that the choir of the National Theater Sarajevo opera will play an important part.

National Theater Sarajevo, as the president of the Board of Directors of NPS Edina Papo said, will produce and participate in the project with great pleasure.

The president of “Preporod” Sanjin Kodrić said that the motive for the project is the essence of the state, the Kingdom of Bosnia, which was then a successful, progressive, advanced state, and King Tvrtko was the greatest Bosnian statesman, and the motive is also that today there are numerous disputes, such as disputing whose king Tvrtko is and so on.

Considering that this is a project of the greatest social importance, the patron is a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirević, and in this sense, his representative Goran Behmen, speaking about the significance of the project, said that in a country that has produced many great individuals, for the first time we will have a domestic grand opera, an opera about King Tvrtko.

It is expected that the premiere of the opera will be presented on BiH Statehood Day – November 25, 2024, and it is also expected that the monument to King Tvrtko, which was created by the academic sculptor Adis Lukač, will be installed in Sarajevo on the same day, Fena reports.
