In the organization of the Bosnian Islamic Community of Jacksonville and under the auspices of numerous friends of truth and justice, the first monument to the victims of the greatest crime after the Holocaust in Europe, the genocide in Srebrenica, was unveiled in Florida.

“On the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, the Islamic community of Bosniaks in Jacksonville, Florida, unveiled a memorial to the victims of genocide in Srebrenica and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Officials from the city of Jacksonville, which adopted a proclamation for the first time this year and declared July 11 as the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Genocide, were present, as well as representatives of the Institute For Research of Genocide Canada, the Islamic Community of Bosniaks of North America and many other friends of truth and justice. It is particularly significant that a large number of young people attended this significant, historical event,” the announcement states.

As part of the memorial opening program Emir Ramić, director of the Institute For Research of Genocide Canada addressed those present, as well as Parvez Ahmed, on behalf of the mayor of Jacksonville, and the representative of the Mufti of the Islamic Community of Bosniaks of North America, secretary Mirnes Lemeš.

They add that the monument in Jacksonville remains a permanent testimony that the genocide in Srebrenica and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be remembered in the name of truth and justice, without which there is no better future for man and civilization.
