A meeting on the next steps for the establishment of the “COVID Hospital” within the General Hospital “Prim.Dr.Abdulah Nakas” was held yesterday in the Government of the Sarajevo Canton (SC).

Besides the members of the Government, the meeting was also attended by representatives of the Institute for Construction of SC and UNDP, and the General Hospital prim.dr. Davorka Matkovic, anesthesiologist and prim.dr. Ednan Drljevic, infectologist.

The meeting was constructive and technical, and steps for the reconstruction of the temporary ambulance and hospital were agreed with UNDP. Two proposals were offered, as well as the next steps for the preparation of project documentation in order to make the facility ready as soon as possible.

The director of the General Hospital “Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakas” Ismet Gavrankapetanovic stated that the primary steps had been agreed for the facility to be transferred to the ownership of the General Hospital, which he believes should have been done a long time ago.

“Also, it was agreed to prepare project documentation, reconstruction of the facility that is being adapted into the hospital capacity, as well as procurement of equipment. It is important to see the serious the situation is, and to offer the citizens of Sarajevo a permanent and extraordinary solution as soon as possible,” Gavrankapetanovic said.

He pointed out that the Government of SC promised the possibility of hiring additional medical staff, which would finally solve the problem of SC in a concrete way.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, as the General Hospital announced.
