A US court has found former US President Donald Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up an affair with “adult movie” actress Stormy Daniels.
Trump, who listened to the jury’s decision in silence, is the first US president in history to be convicted of a crime. He said the trial was “rigged and shameful”. “This is a disgrace. The trial was rigged and the judge was corrupt,” Trump said after being found guilty.
Trump added that the “real verdict” will be pronounced on November 5, in the US presidential elections. White House Legal Office spokesman Ian Sams said the White House respects the rule of law and has no further comment.
US President Joe Biden’s administration said the jury’s decision shows that “no one in America is above the law.”
Speaker of the US House of Representatives Michael Johnson called the jury’s decision “a shameful day in history”, noting that Trump will win the appeals process.
