The justice ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) economies, which include the United States of America (US), Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Canada and Japan, said they continued their determination to support investigations and prosecutions to ensure accountability for international crimes committed against Ukraine in the war between Russia and that country.

The final declaration was adopted after a two-day meeting hosted by Italy in Venice.

Russia’s war against Ukraine was most strongly condemned, but “commitment to the enforcement of relevant laws, including calling to account those who provide illegal financing and goods to this country in violation of sanctions and other restrictive measures against Russia,” was also reiterated.

“We remain committed to supporting investigations and prosecutions to ensure accountability for international crimes committed in and against Ukraine as a result of Russia’s war of aggression,” the statement said.

The G7 Declaration stated that the “Venice Group for Justice” was established to deepen cooperation and support coordination on global issues such as illegal migration, artificial intelligence and drug trafficking.

The statement said the G7 ministers focused on strategies to strengthen the efforts of the judiciary and law enforcement to prevent drug trafficking and money laundering.

The G7 group is the name for the advisory forum of the seven most important industrialized countries in the world. It consists of the prime ministers of the United States of America, Canada, Japan, Germany, Italy, France and Great Britain. Representatives of the European Union and the European Commission also participate in the meetings.
