The Inspectors are checking Sarajevo Clinical Centre Director’s Doctorate

Education inspectors are checking the doctorate of Sebija Izetbegovic, general director of the Clinical Center University of Sarajevo (UNSA).

“At this moment, I can only confirm that an inspection is underway at UNSA – Faculty of Medicine, carried out by cantonal education inspectors for higher education, but it is impossible to announce other details before the end of the inspection procedure,” said Vildana Brdaric, spokesperson for the Administration.

On March 6th, the Senate of the UNSA revoked Sebija Izetbegovic’s title of Master of Medical Sciences.

Three days later, the rector of the UNSA, Rifat Skrijelj, also signed a decision canceling Sebija Izetbegovic’s entry in the Master’s Register.

With that, she officially lost the title of Master of Science, which is why her doctorate title and the title of professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo became questionable.

How did it all begin?

Public statements that questioned the credibility of Sebija Izetbegovic’s academic titles began in May 2021.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Canton Sarajevo (CS) then launched an investigation into Izetbegovic‘s diploma. Documentation was requested from the Croatian authorities, as Izetbegovic stated that she also spent part of her specialization in Zagreb.

The Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia announced earlier that Sebija Izetbegovic did enroll in postgraduate studies in Zagreb, but that the ministry does not have information about the exams she passed.

On July 2nd, 2021, the Administration for Inspection Affairs of CS determined that Izetbegovic’s Master’s degree requires additional checks.

On March 2nd, 2023, the Sarajevo police submitted the student’s transcript of Sebija Izetbegovic to the CS Prosecutor’s Office. The transcript was submitted by order of the Sarajevo Municipal Court.

An appeal to the UNSA against the decision of the Senate, which deleted her master’s degree, is not possible, but proceedings can be initiated before the court within 30 days, Slobodna Evropa reports.
