The Israeli Delegation traveled to Cairo to Negotiate a Ceasefire with Hamas

The Israeli delegation, led by the head of the Shin Bet security service, Ronen Bar, traveled to Cairo today for negotiations on a ceasefire with Hamas, state-run Khan TV reports.

Khan says Bar will also discuss with Egyptian officials the means to prevent Hamas from smuggling weapons from Egypt to Gaza.

Bar will later travel to Qatar to meet with its ceasefire negotiators.

On Sunday, before the delegation left, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would agree to a cease-fire agreement only if it allowed Israel to resume military operations in Gaza after the release of the hostages.

Hamas signaled last week that it had abandoned a key demand that Israel first commit to a permanent ceasefire before signing the deal, raising hopes for progress in internationally brokered talks.
