The Japanese Embassy on Kosarac’s Move: “Provocative and contrary to Efforts to reduce Tensions”

After the US Embassy in BiH condemned the move of the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, Staša Košarac, who sent a World War II military helmet to the High Representative Christian Schmidt, similar words were also received from the Embassy of Japan in BiH.

“The recent message from BiH Minister Košarac to the High Representative is provocative, counterproductive and incompatible with efforts to de-escalate tensions in BiH,” their announcement states.

They say that Japan continues to strongly support and stand in solidarity with High Representative Schmidt and his mandate.

Along with the helmet of the infamous SS units, which he did not explain how he came to have it, Košarac also sent Schmidt a letter he called “Letter to the Occupier”. In the letter, he made a large number of controversial and scandalous claims.

Among other things, Košarac called Schmidt “the embodiment of political evil and bad intentions towards the RS” and in one part announced that Schmidt “is waiting for the Nuremberg Trials”, referring to the trials of former Nazi officials and collaborators after World War II.

Such reactions come after the embassies of the European Union, Great Britain and Germany have already condemned Košarac’s gesture, describing it as undiplomatic, offensive and dangerous in the context of historical manipulations.
