A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was held in Alaska last night, and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced the Kremlin’s first reaction to the summit.

In a brief address, Peskov did not comment excessively on the summit, but explained why the duo did not answer questions from the media.

“It was not necessary to answer journalists’ questions, both leaders gave detailed answers. This meeting and conversation allow us to embark on a joint search for options for a peaceful solution,” Peskov said.

After the three-hour meeting ended, Putin and Trump addressed the media together, but without giving the opportunity for questions from journalists.

Upon arriving in Alaska, Putin refused to answer questions about the killing of civilians in Ukraine, pretending not to hear what American journalists were asking him.

During his address, the Russian leader reiterated that the “fundamental causes of the conflict” must be “eliminated” and that “a fair distribution of security in Europe and the world as a whole must be achieved.” He was particularly pleased that for the first time since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, it had emerged from international isolation.

“It is clear that sooner or later it is necessary to correct the situation, to move from confrontation to dialogue,” the Russian president said.
