‘The Lady’ House’ in Sarajevo has been restored to its Authentic Appearance

The Lady’s House, once one of the most beautiful buildings in the very center of Sarajevo, has been restored to its authentic appearance.

After reconstruction and restoration, the illumination of this national monument has also been completed.

The project was financed by funds from the Budget of the City of Sarajevo.

The historical building “Lady’s House” is one of the rare buildings of Bosnian and Herzegovinian architecture from the Austro-Hungarian period with wall paintings executed in the zgrafito technique.

In addition, this residential building is also one of the few examples of residential architecture at the transition between a residential villa and a miniature palace.

It was built during the Building Order of 1893, which on the left bank of the Miljacka River, between the Ćumurija and Skenderija bridges, allowed only the construction of one-story residential buildings with gardens facing the river.

Since 1905, the building has been owned by the company “ddo Sarajevo”, and in 1935 it was purchased by Ilija Cvijanović from Sarajevo. It was nationalized in 1962, but the owner’s heirs were left with the upper floor and attic apartment.

During the siege of Sarajevo, the building was significantly damaged.

In 2002, an extension was made to the neighboring building on the west side, built during the same historical period, which today houses the Greek Embassy.

The historic building “Gospođićina kuća” was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2011, Fena writes.
