United States (US) President Donald Trump arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday, as part of the third and final stop of his tour of the Gulf countries.

Trump was welcomed upon arrival at Abu Dhabi airport by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the state news agency WAM confirmed.

Accompanied by Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Trump toured the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

The visit included a symbolic stop at one of the Gulf countries’ most prominent cultural and religious landmarks.

The UAE is the third and final stop on Trump’s tour of the Gulf, after Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

His visit to Abu Dhabi marks the first visit by a US president to the city since 2008, when George W. Bush visited.

Trump had previously said he would consider traveling to Istanbul on Friday if it was appropriate, given that Turkey is hosting the announced peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

“If something happens, I would go to Istanbul on Friday, if it would be appropriate,” Trump said during a meeting with business leaders in Qatar, Anadolu Agency writes.
