The Latest Films from World-Acclaimed Authors in the Summer Screen Programme

Summer Screen programme of the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival seeks to capture the spirit of the Competition Programme at this year’s Cannes Film Festival through a selection of films that reflects the range of artistic voices and themes defining the official selection. Despite their diversity, they share a common thread: they tell stories of people trying to live with loss, find a sense of belonging, build or preserve their identity, come to terms with themselves, or become a new version of who they are. It is as though this year, filmmakers chose to turn away from grand narratives and focus instead on what is most intimate and deeply human.

This year’s Summer Screen program brings six of the latest works by great world authors Cristian Mungiu, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Ryūsuke Hamaguchi, Marie Kreutzer, Jeanne Herry and Léa Mysius.

ALL OF A SUDDEN / SOUDAIN
, Hamaguchi Ryūsuke

Facing resistance from her staff, an elderly care director forms a profound friendship with a terminally ill Japanese theatre director as they join forces to fight for human dignity and turn the impossible into reality.

ANOTHER DAY / GARANCE, Jeanne Herry

A gifted but struggling Paris actor battles anxiety and addiction while drawing strength from her sick sister and a tender new romance to confront her darkest demons and reclaim her life.

Palme d’Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival 

When bruises on a devout immigrant family’s daughter spark rumors, a tight-knit fjord community begins to question the line between traditional upbringing and abuse.


GENTLE MONSTER, Marie Kreutzer

Hoping to heal her husband’s severe burnout in a new country home, a concert pianist is plunged into a nightmare when an early morning police visit forces her to confront what he might have done to protect their young son.
