The main ceremony of 130th anniversary of the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Zenica was held with a holy liturgy served by the bishop Zahumsko-Hercegovacki and littoral and the governor of the Metropolis Dabrobosanska, Grigorije Duric.
Afterwards, with the presence of a large number of citizens and guests in the Sokol home, a solemn academy was held on the occasion of this great jubilee. Marking of the significant date of this national monument of B&H started a lot earlier, organized by the Zenica rectory and parish.
The event was opened with the exhibition of icons and church inventory of the Orthodox Church in the City Museum and with a solemn concert of the group “Legende ” at the Bosnian National Theater.
Organized by the Committee on inter-religious cooperation, the parish of Zenica and the Islamic Pedagogical Faculty, a panel discussion was held titled “The Word of God in Christianity compared with the Holy word in the Jewish and Islamic tradition”, and the guest lecturer was Prof. Dr. Vladislav Topalovic, professor at the Faculty of Theology “Sveti Vasilije Ostroški” (“St. Basil of Ostrog”).
The Serbian Orthodox community in Zenica and the Zenica parish thanked all those who supported the completion of the restoration works on the national cultural monument – Zenica Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, and contributed to the organization of the solemn event.
