The Opera of the National Theater Sarajevo is about to begin with the rehearsals of the operetta ”The Merry Widow” by the Austro-Hungarian composer Franz Léhar, based on the libretto by Victor Léon and Leo Stein. This operetta was performed for the first time in 1905 on the stage of the Theater an der Wien. This opera had its premiere in Sarajevo in 2000 in the direction of Krunoslav Cigoj, conducted by Ognjen Bomoštar.
This operetta is a story about a wealthy widow and her suitors who want to keep her inheritance in the country, so they are struggling to find her a wealthy husband. A lot of critics say that this is the ”queen of operettas” and the members of the Sarajevo ensemble hope that its 2013 performance will delight the audience. The conductor of this operetta will be Dario Vučić, while the choreography will be rehearsed with Dinko Bogdanić. The director of this operetta is Krunoslav Cigoj.
The singers and the Choir of the Opera of the National Theater Sarajevo, together with the ballet ensemble of this theater and the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra will perform this operetta on the 15th February 2013.
