The minimum Wage, not the average, should be 1000 BAM

In the first four months of this year, revenues from indirect taxes increased by 538 million BAM compared to the same period last year, according to the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH. The trade unions are urgently asking for a salary increase, and economic experts point out that the minimum wage should be 1000 BAM. The mayor of Banja Luka, Draško Stanivukovic, on the other hand, announces a salary increase of 100 BAM.

Most citizens live on the edge of existence, and salaries, they complain, have never been lower. Many survive on the minimum wage, far from the average salary, which has reached a figure of more than 1,000 BAM, and which they point out is just a statistic.

For many, leaving the country is the only reasonable solution. Economic experts say the minimum wage, not the average, should be 1,000 BAM. Their opinion is that young people should be kept, and this is one of the ways.

“The proposal is that they be paid the gross salary, and that the entities, ie budgets, subsidize what the contributions are. In that way, young people would still stay here, they would not go abroad for work, and maybe in that way the cycle of employment of young people would start “, points out economic analyst Zoran Pavlovic.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Republika Srpska is categorical – salaries must be increased immediately and for everyone.

“This inflation, everything that workers earn, has been swallowed up for a long time. So, the only and most important request is to increase salaries. All the rights that the Federation of Trade Unions fought for through the amendments to the Labor Law must be applied to all workers in both the public and real sectors “, says Ranka Misic, President of the Federation of Trade Unions of RS.

Banja Luka Mayor Drasko Stanivukovic believes that the Union has maximalist demands in some segments, and at the moment not all of them can be met, and announced a salary increase: “What I can say is that we have decided to increase salaries – 100 BAM linearly for everyone . We made that decision because of the increased consumer basket and all the prices. For our workers, we give a salary that will be from June to the end of August, and that salary will continue to be 100 BAM higher. ”

In the first four months of this year, revenues from indirect taxes increased by 538 million BAM compared to the same period last year, according to the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH. Citizens have never been poorer, and the budget of Bosnia and Herzegovina has never been fuller, Federalna writes.
