Serie A leaders Napoli earned 70 million euros in the winter transfer window from the sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris but failed to spend that money on the desired reinforcements, Italian media reported.

The Naples club spent only two million euros. Winger Noah Okafor arrived on loan from AC Milan until the end of the season for 1.5 million euros, while midfielder Luis Hasa was purchased from Lecce for 500.000 euros. Napoli attempted to sign two wingers, Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United and Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, but in the end, both transfers fell through.

AC Milan, currently seven points away from fourth place and a Champions League spot next season, signed five players in the past month. Their most expensive acquisition was Feyenoord’s center-forward Santiago Gimenez, for whom they paid 32 million euros, making him the most expensive player to join Serie A in January.

Lecce can also boast a significant profit, having sold talented 20-year-old Danish international midfielder Patrick Dorgu. Manchester United paid 30 million euros for him, with potential bonuses increasing the transfer fee to 38 million.

The biggest spender in the winter transfer window was Como, now managed by one of the best midfielders of his generation, Cesc Fabregas. Como is two points above the relegation zone and has spent 49.2 million euros on ten new players. Their most expensive signing was Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret, who cost 15 million euros.

Juventus, currently two points away from a Champions League spot, brought in four new players. Their most expensive signing was right-back Alberto Costa, for whom they paid 13.8 million euros to Portugal’s Vitoria Guimaraes.

Second-placed Inter spent only 600.000 euros, which they paid Roma to bring in midfielder Nicola Zalewski on loan until the end of the season.

The ten biggest transfers in Italy during the winter transfer window: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (winger) – transferred from Napoli to Paris for 70 million euros; Santiago Gimenez (center-forward) – transferred from Feyenoord to AC Milan for 32 million euros; Patrick Dorgu (midfielder) – transferred from Lecce to Manchester United for 30 million euros; Maxence Caqueret (midfielder) – transferred from Lyon to Como for 15 million euros; Alberto Costa (defender) – transferred from Vitoria Guimaraes to Juventus for 13.8 million euros; Anastasios Douvikas (center-forward) – transferred from Celta to Como for 13 million euros; Cesare Casadei (midfielder) – transferred from Chelsea to Torino for 13 million euros; Assane Diao (winger) – transferred from Betis to Como for 12 million euros; Warren Bondo (midfielder) – transferred from Monza to AC Milan for 10 million euros; Daniel Maldini (midfielder) – transferred from Monza to Atalanta for 10 million euros.
