The National Assembly of Republika Srpska elected a new Government of Republika Srpska led by Savo Minić on Sunday, January 18, after previously accepting his resignation.
The Bosniak Caucus in the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska discussed this matter yesterday. However, no decision was made to initiate the mechanism for the protection of the vital national interests regarding the election of the new Government of Republika Srpska.
Four delegates within the Caucus requested the initiation of the mechanism because they believe that the Acting president of Republika Srpska has no authority to entrust a mandate for the formation of the Government “as the Constitution of Republika Srpska recognizes only the position of the President of Republika Srpska.”
Compared to the previous cabinet, the new Government of Republika Srpska includes five new ministers.
The decisions on the resignation and the election of a new Government, headed by the same prime minister, were made only a few days before the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina was scheduled to rule on a request for a review of the constitutionality of the election of the Government of Republika Srpska led by Savo Minić. The mandate was entrusted to him by Milorad Dodik following a final and binding verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which imposed a six-year ban on holding public office.
The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina is addressing this matter today at a plenary session.
