The Coordination Body for Migration Issues in BiH held its first meeting as the Operational Staff, and they discussed the current situation in this field and proposed solutions for preventing illegal border crossings and taking care of migrants in BiH.

One of the conclusions of the Operation Staff is further strengthening of border control with the aim of preventing illegal entry into BiH. Therefore, the support will be requested from other police agencies, besides members of SIPA and the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, as the assistance to the Border Police of BiH.

Minister of Security of BiH, Dragan Mektic, who chaired the meeting of the Staff, stated that the previously implemented measures of increased border control resulted in the decreased number of illegal border crossings.

Moreover, they further discussed the topic of taking care of migrants that are currently residing in BiH.

They also noted that an additional location near Sarajevo will be secured next week, while activities on finding more appropriate accommodation for migrants that are currently residing at the territory of the Una-Sana Canton are taking place at the same time.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of the International Organization for Migration in BiH, Peter Van der Auweraert.
