The Political Scene in Republika Srpska is already in the Midst of Presidential Elections

Although the official campaign has not yet begun, the political scene in Republika Srpska is already in the throes of preparations for early presidential elections. The SDS and SNSD have revealed their candidates, Blanuša and Karan, both university professors, whom they see as professionals and authorities. The key question remains, will the opposition reconcile its ranks or will it head to the Palace of Republika Srpska in a divided state?

Although the campaign for early elections has not officially begun, the electoral race to enter the Palace of Republika Srpska has entered a serious phase. The opposition, led by the SDS, is trying to consolidate its forces around Branko Blanuša, offering an alternative that is not based solely on political experience, but with a high risk of a disunited opposition. Blanuša met today with representatives of the People’s Front and the List for Justice and Order.

At the same time, the ruling coalition led by the SNSD leaves no room for a dilemma, and their support goes to Sinisa Karan, who today held a meeting with representatives of DEMOS, confirming the unity of the ruling bloc.

The Party of Democratic Progress, a key opposition partner, has not yet made a final decision on supporting Blanusa, which leaves room for speculation about possible rifts. While the opposition in Republika Srpska is trying to define a common approach, PDP leader Draško Stanivuković was in Mostar, where he met with the president of the HDZ BiH, Dragan Čović.
