Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has, in principle, approved the participation of members of its Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH) in a future peace mission in Gaza, the Presidency of BiH confirmed on Wednesday.
By a conclusion unanimously adopted by the Presidency of BiH, “in-principle consent is granted for the engagement of members of the AFBiH in the mission of the International Stabilization Forces (ISF) in Gaza.”
The conclusion grants authority to the Minister of Defense of BiH, Zukan Helez, to “notify the partner nation, the United States (U.S.), in the prescribed manner, of the readiness of BiH to deploy members of the AFBiH to the mission of the ISF in Gaza, after the legal procedure for adopting the decision on the deployment of a contingent of the AFBiH to the Mission has been carried out.”
By the conclusion, the Presidency tasked the Minister of Defense with conducting the nomination process for a military representative of BiH in the mission of the ISF in Gaza and submitting a proposed decision on the appointment to the Presidency.
Furthermore, the Council of Ministers has been tasked with submitting to the Presidency of BiH an assessment of the justification for the participation of members of the AFBiH in the mission in Gaza.
The deployment of the ISF to Gaza is envisaged in the second phase of the peace agreement initiated by the U.S. and President Donald Trump. The first phase, the ceasefire agreement, entered into force in October.
