The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, ends her tour of the region today with a visit to BiH.
She planned to attend the ceremonial opening of the border crossing and the Svilaj bridge, and a meeting with members of the BiH Presidency is scheduled for the afternoon.
Prior to BiH, Ursula von der Leyen visited Albania, Serbia, Kosovo and Montenegro, sending a message that she had come to tell the countries of the Western Balkans that they wanted to join the EU.
Earlier, during her address to the European Parliament on September 15 in Strasbourg, Ursula von der Leyen announced that she would visit the countries of the Western Balkans and said that she wanted to send a strong signal of the European Union’s commitment to the bloc’s accession process.
“We owe it to all young people who believe in the future of Europe,” Von der Leyen said at the time.
According to her, investing in the future of the Western Balkans is, at the same time, investing in the future of the EU. The President of the European Commission reminded that the EU is strengthening its support for the region, including support through the new Investment and Economic Plan.
