The project that was announced back in 2011, the Airport Center Sarajevo (ACS), in which the need to build a large complex next to the International airport in the capital of BiH, has not moved from the “dead point”. The competent company that runs the project stated that they did not gave up on ACS, but that the works are temporarily stopped.
To recall, Airport Center Sarajevo was supposed to occupy 38,000 m2 including the cinema center of 3,000 m2 with 7 to 9 halls. The official opening was planned for 2013.
“Project Airport Center Sarajevo (ACS) is still present, however, due to problems in our country and affecting every aspect of financing major projects, temporarily we stopped the our work. Briefly, we are currently working on amending the plan and program development project where working intensively on closing the financial structure,” said Amer Bekan, Director General of and CEO of the company Airport Centre Ltd. which owns and runs this project.
Bekan emphasized that they are not able to specify any dynamic plan of the continuation of works nor the deadline for the opening, because they are seeking for the way of financing this demanding project.
When the project was announced, investors Karimpol Group said that 60 % of the retail space is already rented, and the shopping center was supposed to include brands such as Zara, Bershka, Stradivarius, Pull & Bear, Inditex, New Yorker, Oviesse, Delhaize and Sport Life.
Smaller co-ownership stake in the project had PC Sarajevo International Airport Ltd., but it was sold to the company Airport Centre Ltd. 2012.
Construction was announced in the media again in 2013 when the details were emphasized, such as that there will be a large parking lot with 1,500 spaces behind the Center, and that buses that will drive from ACS to the tram station and the nearby settlements and back will be provided as well.
