The Government of Montenegro today adopted the report on public debt as of December 31 last year, which amounts to 4.12 billion euros, or 60.27 percent of GDP.

“Taking into account the deposits of the Ministry of Finance /including 38,477 ounces of gold/, which amounted to 152.41 million euros at the end of 2023, the net public debt of Montenegro at the end of last year amounted to 3.97 billion euros, i.e. 58 04 percent of GDP,” the Government of Montenegro announced.

At the end of last year, the public debt in absolute amount increased by 24.60 million euros compared to the same period in 2022.

The increase in debt is the result of borrowing by the state, on the one hand, and regular repayments and exchange rate differences arising when the debt balance is expressed at a different exchange rate, on the other hand, the announcement states.
