If you grew up in the former Yugoslavia, there is a good chance you used Kekec children’s cream at least once. A recognizable blue-and-white box was part of many households, and this product even today evokes childhood memories.
Kekec children’s cream was one of the most famous products of the Sarajevo factory Astro, which operated as part of RO Bosnalijek BiH. In addition to the cream, Astro also produced a children’s soap of the same name.
Cream that Marked the Generations
Kekec was named after a very popular character from Slovenian literature and cinematography. Kekec was a brave, joyful, and swift boy from the mountains, and his character was shaped by a healthy, carefree childhood and by nature.
This message was also present on the product packaging. The Kekec character should symbolize gentleness, naturalness, and protection of children’s skin.
Compared to other products that over time began to be packaged in tubes, Kekec cream remained recognizable for its shallow, round tin.
A blue-and-white box that was hard to forget
The blue-and-white packaging gave the product a look that was reminiscent of medical cleanliness and care, while the practical tin was easy to use.
At a time when the selection of children’s cosmetics was nowhere near as large as today, products like Kekec cream held a special place in households.
Many generations remember that characteristic tin, the scent of the cream, and the moments when their parents cared for them with it.
