The Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina is unequivocal: BiH is a single, sovereign state consisting of two entities and the Brčko District. The Dayton Peace Agreement provides the legal and constitutional foundation of BiH, and all actors and signatories must respect it. The United Kingdom is clear that the statehood of Republika Srpska, and therefore its celebration, is not in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement – the British Embassy in BiH said in a Facebook post.

They call on the authorities in the RS to respect and implement the upcoming interim measure of the Constitutional Court of BiH on the Law on the Use of the Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem.

“Words carry weight. Political leaders and public figures have a special responsibility to use language that promotes stability, dialogue and reconciliation, not division.

The United Kingdom, together with our international partners, remains committed to ensuring that the thirty years of peace, stability and progress achieved through the Dayton Peace Agreement are preserved, in the interests of all citizens of BiH,” the British Embassy stressed.

The President of BiH The President of the RS entity and the President of Serbia, Milorad Dodik and Aleksandar Vučić, attended the raising of flags on the masts in front of the Palace of the RS in Banja Luka this morning, “on the occasion of Sretenje, the Statehood Day of the RS and the Statehood Day of Serbia”, which is being celebrated jointly in Banja Luka for the first time.
