The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Analysis of Foreign Trade Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the World for the Period I – III 2026, prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations.
The total trade of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first quarter of 2026 was 11.41 billion BAM. Of this, the value of exports was 4.15 billion BAM, and the value of imports reached 7.25 billion KM, with a foreign trade deficit of 3.10 billion BAM.
Compared to the first quarter of 2025, a growth in total foreign trade exchange of 0.77 percent was recorded, with imports increasing by 0.93 percent, exports by 0.50 percent, while the foreign trade deficit increased by 1.51 percent. The coverage of imports by exports was 57.25 percent, which is 0.25 percent less compared to the same period in 2025.
The European Union continues to be the key foreign trade partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and exports to EU countries in the first quarter of 2026 amounted to 3.21 billion BAM, which represents a growth of 5.71 percent compared to the same period of the previous year – announced the Council of Ministers of BiH.
The overall indicators of trade in goods for the first quarter of 2026 confirm that Bosnia and Herzegovina is recording a slight growth in foreign trade activity, but at the same time remains faced with a high trade deficit and pronounced import dependence.
One of the main challenges in the coming period will be strengthening the competitiveness of domestic production and increasing the export base.
The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina tasked the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina to submit analyzes on the foreign trade exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina on a quarterly basis.
