mahmutovic“Increase of gross domestic product (GDP) is expected in Sarajevo Canton due to the fact that an upward trend in exports was recorded since the beginning of 2015 while imports were reduced, and the deficit was decreased by 160 million BAM in 9 months in comparison with the same period in 2014,” according to the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Canton Sarajevo (CCCS), Muamer Mahmutovic.

Mahmutovic stated that according to the available data, positive results were achieved in the fields of tourism, forestry, as well as in the trade of the Sarajevo Canton with the world, in 9 months of 2015.

Sarajevo as the capital city has a lot of competitive advantages in many business sectors, and the potentials of economic development have been recognized lately, primarily in the wood processing and metal processing industry, the construction industry, ICT sector, tourism, the pharmaceutical industry as well as other sectors.

Mahmutovic said that the positive trend was recorded in these sectors, both in production and in the contribution to the total exports of the Canton Sarajevo, and these industries are opening up the possibilities for employment of a large number of workers.

He recalled that the Chamber submitted a set of proposed measures related to the improvement of the business environment and creating conditions for faster inflow of investments to the governing structures in 2015, and that the representatives of cantonal authorities welcomed the efforts which the Chamber is making in this regard.
