Turkish police are carrying out a major operation in eight provinces, including Istanbul, in which 33 people suspected of international espionage for the Israeli intelligence service Mossad have been detained so far.
The operation is being carried out following an investigation led by the Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Department at the Istanbul General Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation found information that the Israeli intelligence service Mossad aimed to carry out activities such as reconnaissance, surveillance, attack and kidnapping of foreign citizens residing in Turkey for humanitarian reasons, Anadolu Agency reports.
An arrest warrant was issued for a total of 46 persons suspected of international espionage activities.
Turkish police conducted simultaneous searches at 57 addresses in eight provinces and detained 33 suspects.
The operation continues, as does the search for the 13 remaining suspects.
