British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy met today with the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić.
Lemmy expressed the United Kingdom’s strong commitment to a democratic and multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina, its territorial integrity, sovereignty and security.
He stressed that the actions of the ruling coalition of the Bosnian entity of RS are a direct attack on the constitutional order, the Dayton Peace Agreement and peace, and are an obstacle to the Euro-Atlantic future of BiH.
“The United Kingdom continues to be an important foreign policy partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina and, as a permanent member of international bodies, and in cooperation with international partners, supports BiH’s aspirations for democracy, peace and security,” it was emphasized at the meeting.
Lemmy, Komšić and Bećirović also discussed the importance of further support for the EUFOR mission in BiH.
After the meeting, Bećirović said that the United Kingdom strongly supports the independence, sovereignty and unity of the multiethnic state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“There is full support for the protection of the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, full support for the High Representative of the international community, full support for the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the strongest condemnation of the overthrow of the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he said.
Bećirović said that this was his second meeting with Lemi and announced that a return visit to London and talks with UK officials would soon follow.
“We must not underestimate the danger that looms over BiH. The competent institutions of BiH must not relax, because the situation remains very serious. However, it is very important that the ring around fugitives from justice is tightened day by day. It is now clear to everyone that Dodik and his anti-state group were preparing anti-state and anti-Dayton acts,” he said.
He stressed that he had informed the UK Minister about the security situation in BiH and stressed that this was the most serious attack on the constitutional order of BiH and on peace and stability in BiH since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
“The coup d’état in BiH is still ongoing and this has been confirmed by numerous important centers of power. Dodik and his associates have attacked the constitutional order and the foundations of the Dayton Peace Agreement. This is a criminal act of attacking the constitutional order, and there are elements to speak of an armed rebellion,” he said, Fena news agency writes.
