Today, Oman mediated indirect talks between Iran and the US on Tehran’s nuclear program, seeking to calm tensions between the countries. After the meeting, the host country issued a statement confirming the conversation between Iranian and American diplomats, and the conversation was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman, Badr el Busaidi.
“The consultations focused on preparing the appropriate circumstances for the continuation of diplomatic and technical negotiations, ensuring the importance of these negotiations, given the determination of the parties to ensure their success in achieving sustainable security and stability,” said the statement from Oman.
The US and Iran had previously held negotiations in Oman, but they were interrupted when Israel bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities in June 2025 with the help of Washington.
Israeli attacks then destroyed Iran’s air defenses and targeted an arsenal of ballistic missiles.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously stated that the regime in Tehran is currently the weakest since coming to power in 1979, due to mass demonstrations across Iran, in which thousands of people have died so far.
Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman issued a statement stating that El Busaidi met separately with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Abbas Aragachi, and then with the US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, who is the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
The recordings that were later published by the media in Oman show that US Navy Admiral Brad Cooper, head of the US Army’s Central Command, also attended the meeting, which had not happened before.
Aragachi wrote on the X social network that “Iran enters diplomacy with open eyes and with a firm memory of the past year.”
“Commitments must be honored. Equality, mutual respect, and mutual interest are not rhetoric — they are mandatory and pillars of a lasting agreement,” he wrote.
