The United States Embassy in Sarajevo today organized a working-level meeting on the Southern Interconnection with representatives of coalition parties in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Embassy announced on X.

The meeting followed a meeting with political leaders held on November 20.

“All parties agreed that it is urgent to begin construction of the Southern Interconnection pipeline in 2026 and that, in order to achieve this, it is necessary to quickly agree and conclude an agreement between BiH and Croatia to enable the import of American liquefied natural gas to BiH,” the announcement states.

US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, and US Ambassador to Croatia Nicole McGraw strongly supported this initiative last week, emphasizing the importance of reliable and predictable energy supplies for the entire region.

Representatives of the US Embassy confirmed that the Southern Interconnection is a project of crucial importance for the energy sector of BiH, which the current US administration strongly supports and wants to see implemented at full capacity.

It was emphasized that options remain open that can contribute to satisfying the interests of all parties, and above all, accelerate progress on the project.
