The USA gives unreserved Support to the Implementation of Reforms in BiH

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met today in Washington, as part of a working visit to the United States of America, with the senior director for Europe at the National Security Council, Amanda Sloat.

The focus of the conversation between Minister Konaković and Senior Director Sloat was the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, with an emphasis on reform processes.

As stated by the Public Relations Office of the Ministry, Konaković informed the interlocutor about the progress of BiH on its way to the EU. He reiterated that our country remains strongly committed to European integration and is dedicated to fulfilling 14 key priorities from the European Commission’s Opinion. He expressed hopes that Bosnia and Herzegovina will open negotiations on EU membership by the end of 2023.

Senior Director Sloat pointed out that the United States of America gives unreserved support to the implementation of reforms in BiH as well as its European path. She expressed a special interest in the internal conditions and processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region and announced an upcoming visit to our country, stressing that she is following all events with special attention.

The interlocutors also exchanged opinions on the economic situation, global security challenges due to the war in Ukraine, regional relations, and the extension of the mandate of the EUFOR Althea mission.

National Security Council Senior Director for Europe Amanda Sloat worked at the Brookings Institution before joining the Biden administration. During the term of US President Barack Obama, she was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southern European and Eastern Mediterranean Affairs in the State Department and Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. She also worked in the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, it was announced from the Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
