The Vatican releases New Information on the Condition of Pope Francis

The Vatican’s communications department has released new information about Pope Francis’ health, stating that he had two episodes of acute respiratory failure, or respiratory failure.

According to the department, the pope experienced two episodes of respiratory failure during the day, and they were caused by a significant accumulation of endobronchial mucus and consequent bronchospasm.

“For this reason, two bronchoscopies were performed, with the need to remove large secretions. Non-invasive mechanical ventilation continued in the afternoon. The Holy Father remained awake, oriented and cooperative at all times,” they said.

He was admitted to the hospital on February 14 after having difficulty breathing for several days. He was first treated for bronchitis, after which he was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia.

Pope Francis also sent a message through the communications department to all citizens who are concerned about his health.

“I would like to thank you for your prayers. I feel all your affection and closeness. I feel as if I am supported by all the people of God,” Pope Francis wrote via his official account on the X platform.
