The Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Walid Haggag, paid an official visit to Tuzla on Tuesday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and friendly relations with local and regional authorities across the country.

During the visit, Ambassador Haggag met with the Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton, Irfan Halilagić, and the Mayor of Tuzla, Zijad Lugavić. Talks focused on expanding cooperation between Egypt and Tuzla Canton, particularly in the fields of tourism, cultural exchange, education and economic development, as well as exploring investment opportunities for Egyptian companies in the Tuzla region.

Special attention was given to tourism cooperation and the role of Tuzla International Airport, from which a charter flight to Hurghada is expected to be launched. The airport was highlighted as a potential future hub for both Bosnian tourists travelling to Egypt and Egyptian tourists visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ambassador Haggag emphasized Egypt’s interest in strengthening tourist exchanges and underlined the investment potential of major Egyptian companies, expressing readiness to deepen cooperation through concrete infrastructure projects. He also voiced satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt.

Prime Minister Halilagić presented Tuzla Canton’s comparative advantages in relation to other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and stressed the canton’s openness to enhancing cooperation with Egypt. He thanked the ambassador for the visit and expressed hope that discussions would soon lead to tangible results.

The meeting also addressed preparations for signing an official friendship and twinning agreement between the City of Tuzla and the Egyptian city of Aswan, which is expected to further strengthen cultural and institutional ties.

This marks Ambassador Haggag’s first official visit to Tuzla Canton since assuming his post in October 2024.
