Today marks 30 years since the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its 12 annexes were initialed at the US Wright-Patterson base in Dayton, ending the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
With this agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina was organized as a state of three constituent peoples and others, and two entities, the Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are signatories to all annexes.
The Dayton Agreement, after three weeks of negotiations, was initialed by the then presidents of Serbia Slobodan Milošević, the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegović, and Croatia Franjo Tuđman.
The agreement was initialed in the presence of the then US Secretary of State Warren Christopher, and besides him, the main American mediators were Richard Holbrooke and General Wesley Clark.
The Dayton Agreement was officially signed on 14 December 1995 at the Elysee Palace in Paris.
The Dayton Agreement was established on 21 November, which is a holiday and non-working day in Republika Srpska.
