108,158 displaced people and refugees from our country currently live within the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and abroad, according to official data from the state Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees.

When the Dayton Peace Agreement was signed on December 14th, 1995, it was estimated that more than two million people had been displaced, half of the total pre-war population.

The Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH states that “it is very difficult to determine the actual number of displaced persons”, as well as that “it is necessary to review the status”.

How many displaced persons are there in BiH?

There are a total of 91,223 displaced persons in BiH.

How many refugees are abroad?

There are 16,935 refugees from BiH in the countries of the region and the world.

How much money was spent on the return of refugees to BiH?

About two and a half billion euros have been invested in the return of displaced persons from donations and the budget in the period from 2009 to the end of 2022, according to the data of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH.

How much money was officially spent on the renovation?

BiH authorities have official data on how much money was spent from 2009 to 2022 (secured for all projects 2,500,000,000), but not for the first 14 years after the war.

The return process is not officially over

Tens of millions of budget euros are still spent every year on the return, which is the government’s obligation until the BiH Parliamentary Assembly declares that the return process is complete, as stated in the Report on the Implementation of the Revised Strategy for the Implementation of Annex VII of the Dayton Peace Agreement for 2022, Slobodna Evropa writes.
