Thirty Years ago, the First Multi-Party Elections held in Bosnia

On this day 30 years ago, the General Elections were held in FR Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the second round for the election of representatives to the House of Peoples was held on December 2.

These were the first multi-party elections in FR Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to the elections for members of the Presidency of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, elections for the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina were also held.

The average voter turnout was 77.83 percent of the 3,033,921 total number of registered voters (74.4 percent in the elections for members of the Presidency and 81.6 percent in the elections for the Municipal Council and 77.5 percent for the Citizens’ Council), Avaz writes.

In these elections, the so-called national parties: the Party of Democratic Action, the Serbian Democratic Party and the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After that, Alija Izetbegovic (SDA party) became the President of the Republic, Momcilo Krajisnik (SDS party) the President of the Assembly and Jure Pelivan (HDZ BiH party) the Prime Minister.
