Several thousand pilgrims from all over the world are participating on Wednesday in the 44th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions in Medjugorje.
The day before the anniversary, the 34th Peace Walk was held, in which numerous pilgrims from countries around the world participated with the flags of their countries.
As announced, holy masses in the Croatian language are held in the parish church at 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 a.m. and the central solemn holy mass at 7 p.m. Just like every 25th of the month, right after the mass there will be joint adoration of Jesus in the Most Holy Altar Sacrament, then it will continue in silence until 7 am.
The director of the Tourist Board of Čitluk Municipality, Ante Kozina, said earlier for Fena that the number of visits to the parish of Međugorje is similar to last year, adding that they expect a good season this year as well.
“According to the data we have so far in the Tourist Board, compared to last season, this year we are recording a slight increase in the number of arrivals to the parish of Međugorje,” said Kozina.
The apparitions in Medjugorje began in 1981 when six children, Ivanka Ivanković, Mirjana Dragićević, Vicka Ivanković, Ivan Dragićević, Ivan Ivanković and Milka Pavlović, reported an apparition of the Mother of God on Crnica Hill in Medjugorje.
The Vatican has adopted a “nihil obstat” (no opposition) position in relation to Medjugorje, which means that it allows religious pilgrimages and pastoral work in the area, but does not confirm supernatural apparitions, Fena news agency writes.
