Three Russian Drones fell in Romania, NATO commented

Romania said it had found fragments of Russian drones on its territory, and NATO said it saw no signs of a deliberate attack on alliance territory after Moscow’s troops fired 38 long-range drones at Ukraine overnight.

The Air Force of Ukraine destroyed 25 Russian drones, their commander said on Telegram. Three drones “were lost after crossing the state border with Romania,” it added.

Romania’s defense ministry said it found parts of a Russian Geran 1/2 unmanned aerial vehicle near the village of Plauru across the Danube River from the southern Ukrainian port city of Izmail, which was attacked for the second night in a row.

A video of one of the drones being shot down also appeared on social networks. It states that the Romanians shot down the drone with the German Gepard anti-aircraft system.

Commenting on reports of debris, a NATO spokesman said there was no indication of a deliberate attack on alliance territory.

“While NATO has no information to suggest any deliberate attack by Russia on allied territory, these acts are irresponsible and potentially dangerous,” the spokesman said in a statement.

Two Finnish F-18 fighter jets, part of NATO’s aerial surveillance missions in Romania, were scrambled to monitor the attack, the ministry added.

The search for other fragments continues, and all locations where the drones may have fallen “were outside residential areas and no infrastructure elements were damaged,” it said.

Romania shares a 650 km long border with Ukraine, and in the past year, parts of Russian drones have repeatedly strayed into its territory. Russia attacked infrastructure in the southern Odesa region and central Ukraine, the air force commander said, Klix.ba writes.
