Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Ervin Ibrahimovic stated, at the meeting of heads of state and government within the Games of the Small States in Andorra, that in a time when we are facing economic and financial challenges, increasingly evident consequences of climate change, and general global instability, holding such events represents more than just a sporting event.
The meeting was an opportunity to exchange views on current global challenges faced by small European countries, which, despite limited resources, have proven that they can be catalysts of change in the global environment and leaders in the fields of sustainable development, human rights, education, sports, and healthcare.
“Talks among representatives of states and governments on the topic of challenges faced by small European countries are confirmation of our joint efforts in ensuring visibility, but also in strengthening mutual security, trust, and cooperation. Through such encounters, we learn from each other and build the foundations of joint action that transcends our borders,” the minister stated.
He also said that small countries can play a unique role and “be bridges of cooperation, but also models of rapid and efficient transformation.”
After the high-level meeting, a Declaration was adopted advocating the strengthening of resilience, the improvement of relations with the European Union (EU) and other European countries, the strengthening of cooperation among small European countries, and strong support for peace and stability in Europe and the world.
On the margins of the meeting, Ibrahimovic had brief talks with Prince Albert II of Monaco, with the Captains Regent of San Marino Denise Bronzetti and Italo Righi, as well as with that country’s foreign minister Luca Beccari. During his stay in Andorra, he will have separate meetings with the Prime Minister of Andorra Xavier Espot Zamora, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Imma Tor Faus.
Yesterday, the minister also visited the Montenegrin athletes participating in this year’s Games of the Small States.
