Today, as a part of the project “Sarajevo in the heart of Europe”, “Grand Prix” cycling race, a project sponsored by the International Cycling Union (UCI), with the active support of the Tour de France, will be held.
The participation of 140 athletes from more than 20 countries around the world is expected. In addition, the race will represent the Balkan Championship for the 2014th.
The former world cycling champions like Frenchman Bernard Hinault, Bernard Thévenet, Irish Stephen Roche, American Greg LeMond, Dutchman Joop Zoetemelk, Italians Felice Gimondija and others, will come in Sarajevo as well. The great number of other public figures of France, whic will come in Sarajevo in cooperation with the organization of the Tour de France, wants to visit the place marking the start of World War I, in which that country has lost about a million and a half people.
The race begins at 11:00 o’clock in front of the City Assembly in East Sarajevo. Cyclists will ride a route through Vogosca, Ilijas, Visoko, Kiseljak Ilidža, Hadzici, Trnovo, East Sarajevo, to the city of Sarajevo, and to the finish line on the Square of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In addition to the official, the races for amateurs” Sarajevo” Tour – cycling tour of East Sarajevo to Sarajevo will also be organized.
