boleroThe legendary British ice skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean performed Bolero last night in the Olympic Hall Juan Antonio Samaranch, which they had already performed in 1984 at the Olympics and won a gold medal.

They went down in history in figure skating, when they won the Olympic gold medal and received the maximum number of points from each judge. The gold medal winners visited Sarajevo in 1998, just a few years after the war. Dean told the media in Sarajevo that he was pleasantly surprised with the recovery of the capital city of B&H.

‘’The war scars are still visible, but I am positively surprised with the recovery of the city in comparison to my last visit in 1998’’, said Dean.

With the performance of Bolero, Torvill and Dean showed that they are still in excellent shape and reminded Sarajevo citizens of the 1980’s, when everyone was proud of Sarajevo and the Olympic Mountains.

Young British skaters also performed, who are the champions in their country and who came to Sarajevo on the invite of Torvill and Dean. Skaters from the B&H figure skating clubs ‘Olimp’ and ‘Bosna’ also performed.

The Sarajevo public was presented with young Sarajevo speed skaters and hockey players, as well as the mascot of the Sarajevo Olympics, the popular Vučko.

Last night’s performance on ice marked the beginning of a campaign to build an ice hall, which would be maintained ten months a year.
