Even though organized groups of tourists from European countries have started arriving in Mostar with the arrival of spring, there is concern among caterers and tourism workers about the crisis in Ukraine, which is already being felt by the number of guests in Herzegovina.
Organized groups of tourists from Germany and Spain arrived in the old town of Mostar yesterday, but the director of the Mostar Tourist Board, Mensud Durakovic, told that the arrival of groups from European countries was insignificant compared to what was expected.
“Yesterday we had one group of Poles, and the day before two buses of Italians. But that’s not even close to what we’re used to in good seasons,” explained Durakovic yesterday.
He emphasized that this is the time when the flow of tourists in Mostar should be much higher, but that the groups that come show that Mostar is still interesting to tourists and it raises hopes that if the situation stabilizes, the tourist season will flourish.
Caterers and tourism workers are worried because, after the great losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic, they expected a final recovery, and are already suffering the negative impact of the crisis in Ukraine, especially because it affects not only Mostar but other tourist centers.
In all the difficulties that have hit tourism, Mostar is encouraged only by the fact that their city has become extremely interesting to the whole region, so more and more guests come from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), but also neighboring Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, and Montenegro.
During the season, Mostar has a large number of events that regularly gather guests from the entire region, as well as individuals from European countries, among which the diaspora from BiH has a significant place, with a large number of Mostar citizens.
Among the important events are certainly the traditional jumps from the Old Bridge, Red Bull Cliff Diving, and the Mostar Fair, which takes place from April 5th to 9th, when according to the current interest of guests, all accommodation capacities should be filled.
The catering facilities that are open during the day are filled with guests who enjoy drinking coffee in the open air, while others are preparing seasonal facilities for the opening on April 1st.
Yesterday, the activists of the Circles of the Past (Krugovi proslosti) association cleaned the old city center and the plateau under the Old Bridge. They will continue with their activities today, and also the workers of Public Utility Komos will join them.
