Trial to former Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina begins on Thursday

The trial of Dragan Mektic, former Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, begins today in the Court of BiH. The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH charges him with abuse of office or authority, and the process begins with the reading of the indictment and the introductory words of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the defense.

In addition to Mektic, the indictment also includes former head of the Office of the Minister of Security Igor Golijanin, Assistant Minister Samir Agic and Edin Garaplija as the responsible person and owner of the Institute for Fire and Explosion Protection “Inza” Sarajevo, Avaz news portal reports.

The indictment charges them with abuse of office in the implementation of the Cross-Border Cooperation Project in the field of firefighting, which was financed with 198,454 euros by the EU Delegation to BiH. Mektic, Golianin and Garaplija are charged with the crime of high corruption, which damages BiH’s international reputation.

The indictment also charges them with gross violations of the Law on Public Procurement, the Law on Conflict of Interest in BiH Government Institutions, the Law on Ministries and Other Administrative Bodies in BiH.

They are also accused of violating the Law on Civil Service in BiH Institutions and internal regulations of the Ministry of Security during the project implementation, ie procurement of equipment for firefighting facilities, engagement of human resources, ie natural and legal persons, as well as procurement of materials from interested parties and close relatives, thus gaining illegal property gain.The total damage is 244,764 BAM.
