The United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump criticized the European Union (EU) on Wednesday and promised that he would“very soon” impose 25 percent tariffs on exports from the 27-member bloc.
The EU, Trump said, “was formed to screw over” the U.S.
“That’s the purpose of it, and they did a good job. But now I’m the president. They really took advantage of us in a different way,” he said to reporters, calling his first cabinet meeting since taking office in January.
“They don’t accept our cars. They don’t accept, essentially, our agricultural products. They use various reasons not to do that. We accept everything from them, and we have about a 300 billion dollar deficit with the EU. Now, I love the countries of Europe,” he said.
Trump added that the new import tariffs will be imposed on “cars and other things.”
