US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose sanctions on both Russia and Ukraine if the Russia-Ukraine conflict escalates.
“Yes, I’m thinking about that, the deadline (for imposing sanctions), when I see a moment that shows that it’s not going to stop. We’re going to be very tough and it could be directed at both countries, to be honest. You know, it takes two to tango, but we’re going to be very tough, whether it’s Russia or anyone else. It’s a bloodbath that’s going to end,” Trump said.
He said that during his last phone call, he asked Russian President Vladimir Putin not to respond to the latest attacks by the Ukrainian military on Russian territory.
“He said they have no choice but to attack based on that. It probably won’t be pretty. I don’t like that. I said, ‘Don’t do it. You shouldn’t do it and you should stop.’ But there’s a lot of hate there,” Trump said.
Trump stressed that he was “with Ukraine,” but that he was still for ending the conflict.
“I’m with Ukraine. We signed a big deal on rare earth metals with Ukraine. I’m for stopping the killing, that’s something I’m really for,” Trump added.
