US President Donald Trump praised progress made during a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, signaling that Beijing has approved a deal that would see American companies take over TikTok’s operations in the United States.

“I just finished a very productive conversation with President Xi of China. We made progress on many important issues, including trade, fentanyl, the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the approval of the TikTok deal,” Trump wrote on his social media account.

He added that “the conversation was very good, that they will speak again by phone, and that he appreciates the approval regarding TikTok, and both look forward to meeting at APEC.”

Trump also referred to the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which will be held in South Korea on October 31.
